Thank you Lost in the Fog, that article was an interesting read. I visited NZ for an International Convention and I loved both Islands, so much to offer and lovely people. I hope to return some day.

HP, I understand your frustration. I've not been DF'd or DA'ed. However, I left my family (Mom and Dad) years ago because they supported a sibling who was on a character assassination move towards my family. I was going to the meetings, field service, volunteering at construction sites, and pre-convention work, and the family was already shunning me. Once I was away from friends and family influences and had some time to think I figured out the Truth about the Truth and stopped immediately.
The rift within the family still cuts deeply and I feel a loss for at least an occasional phone call relationship with my Mother. However, If Mom were to call up today to say hi, what would we talk about? Let's get real. I work in big time heavy construction projects which she is probably not interested. I haven't been to a meeting or assembly of any kind in over a decade. We used to talk about the "truth" for hours, deconstructing and reconstructing ideas. Mom wouldn't be happy with me talking about why I am not attending meetings or not actively pursuing spiritual goals. I guess I could talk about the overlapping generation doctrine, but I don't think that would that would go far.
Although painful, I have to recognize that I have taken an alternative "other road" and yes! it has consequences. You take the blue or the red pill and recognize the consequences.
I don't know why this topic has pained me lately so, but it has. I wish the best for you, it is so hard with beloved parents, but we have chosen different paths an we have to Man up about it. Slab some bacon on a biscuit and lets ride!

Hellfire justifies torture = Armageddon justifies shunning?
by slimboyfat ina few weeks ago the watchtower study condemned the teaching of hellfire, among other things, because some religions have used the hellfire doctrine as a justification for torture:.
the false teaching of hellfire has been used to justify torture, including the burning at the stake of those who opposed church teachings.
according to a book on the spanish inquisition, some of those responsible for this cruelty may have believed that they were only giving heretics “a taste of what perpetual hellfire would be like” so that they would repent before dying and be saved from hellfire.. it occurs to me that jws justify disfellowshipping on a similar basis.

SlimBoy, good point. At least JW's don't throw people into the water and judge an innocent person would sink but a witch would bob on the surface like the early American witch trials.
When I am lonely, often lately, I have to remind myself that I am in the winner's circle. My life is more peaceful without Witness family.

What Do You Think Would Make A Witness Decide It Was Now Time To Leave The “Truth”?
by minimus inis there anything that will make that loyal witness ever see the light??
you know, that well respected elder, pioneer, or witness who has been in the “truth “ for decades..

I believe it takes humility to admit that you have been the victim of a scam such as Jws. When the feeling overcomes you personally that you have been fooled and then "how could I have been so stupid?" It doesn't set well with a mind that has been told that Jws have all the answers that worldly people are in the dark about.

Holiday field service
by All or nothing intoday is 4th of july in my part of the world- the us- and i was reflecting how we were strongly encouraged when we were still in to go out in the ministry on holidays.
i just mentioned this memory to my husband and we reflected on how cult like this was.
anyone else have thoughts on this?

Go to Florida, the government is trying to get rid of the pythons that have taken over the glades. There is a reality show about wild crazy people running barefoot to catch a python. I never watch those reality shows, but it was at a hotel with nothing to watch. Ok, I'm good.

Yea, you want to read the Song of Solomon with a beautiful woman? Two or three hundred dollars should take care of that.
